Dear Gavin Newsom,

I support ocean water import via the Pacific or Sea of Cortez for the Salton Sea. There are numerous reasons why I feel it is important for public, economic and environmental health.

Ocean water import supports the objectives of the Salton Sea Management Program by supplying a reliable water source for the multi-benefit, restorative, revitalization and dust suppression projects. It would cover exposed playa, eliminate hazardous airborne dust and stabilize surface elevation of the lake.

Importation of ocean water would reconnect dried out marinas to the Salton Sea, providing necessary launch access for federal, state and local agencies to carry out mandated research. It would also create recreational and economic opportunities, improve property and esthetic value of the region, benefit disadvantaged shoreline communities as well as help coastal cities or Mexico's economic and water needs.

Ocean water import also benefits the environment. It would temporarily manage salinity until desalination technology is implemented for holistic recreational, renewable energy and habitat purposes and thus restore a healthier, natural aquatic element for wildlife that relies on the Salton Sea to survive.

I believe the advantages of importing water from the ocean are worthwhile and it is financially and technically feasible. I strongly urge the State to carry out a comprehensive engineering analysis of ocean water import.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,
